School Librarian Visits HS English Class

Today Mr. Dutcher was invited into Mrs. Lauria's HS English class. They had just finished reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and they are researching the library periodical databases for articles to relate themes found within the book to the world today.

Senior Art Students Display Works in LMC

Ms. Hall's Senior Art students have put their works on display in the LMC. These works will remain on display all day Tuesday and Wednesday. The LMC will also be open Tuesday evening for viewing during the budget vote.

Students wishing to view the art exhibit can come down before school starts or they can get presigned passes to come down during their study halls. Teachers may also bring their classes down for a visit. Seniors will also be permitted to visit the art exhibit in the LMC without presigned passes, however, they will be asked to sign in.

Mr. Mack's Class Visited Today

Mr. Mack's class visited the LMC today to start their research on the Holocaust. They were using print resources, including our new 3 volume series "The Holocaust and World War II Almanac." They will be returning during the week to continue their research.

Vivian Vande Velde Visits!

Award-winning young adult mystery writer Vivian Vande Velde visited us in the LMC this after noon. She talked to an audience of 15 students and parents about her stories, her experiences with book publishers, and her creative process. She also answered questions and signed copies of her books for participants. This event was organized by the Southworth Public Library and funded through a grant from the Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund.

Dryden MS/HS LMC Wins 2005 "3M Salute to Schools" Award

We recieved a letter today from 3M and the American Association of School Librarians that Dryden MS/HS LMC has been selected to receive a 3M Book Detection System as part of the 2005 "3M Salute to Schools" program. We are one of 100 schools across the nation recieving this award.

Ms. Doubet's AP Calculus Class Visit for Research

Students in Ms. Doubet's AP Calculus class visited today to start researching various pre-assigned calculus topics, including: the use of prime numbers, fractals, real world applications of calculus, Sofia Kovalevskya, and the mathematics of crime solving. Students reviewed how to search ProQuest and how to cite magazine articles in MLA format with their teacher and their librarian.

Mr. Russo's Students Present Biographies

Mr. Russo's students visited to use the library classroom today to present their biographical research of celebraties and other important individuals. They will be back on Wednesday to conclude their presentations.

Time Warp Engulfs Ms. Leonello’s Students!

This week, Ms. Leonello’s 8th grade Middle School English class came down to the library again today to research the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s to identify historical events, influential people, slang, inventions, music, fashion, and other items to explore our cultural shared beliefs. They started their research on Monday and will be in through out the week to use various library books, databases, and the internet.

Classes Visiting the LMC

Today in the LMC, Ms. Snow's English class visited to research Macbeth's Scotland. Later, Ms. Soriano's class visited to continue their research on the national parks.
