Reading Newspapers With Mrs. Cunningham's Students

Mr. Dutcher happened to stop by Mrs. Cunningham’s Middle School class this morning and he was invited to participate in their oral newspaper reading exercise. Together, everyone read an article about Dryden’s new district-wide silent reading program that appeared in today’s Ithaca Journal on pages B1 and B2.

LMC Open for Students From Study Halls and Academic Labs

This morning the library media center officially opened up to students wishing to visit from their study halls and academic labs. Teachers are asked to send up to three to the library and to call ahead to see if space is available should more student wish to come. Mr. Dutcher spent several days last week visiting with students to discuss with them his student expectations, consequences for inappropriate behaviors, and library rules. This information was also sent to all Middle School and High School teachers and it is posted on the library web page under the section labeled 'About Us.'

Library Media Center Open For Business!

Library Media Center opened earlier this week for book selection while we complete our implementation of our new book detection system that we received through a grant from 3M and the American Association for School Libraries’ ‘Salute to Schools’ program. Our library was one of 100 school libraries chosen to receive a book detection system.

Students can now check out books from our Fiction, New Books, Biographies, Newbery, and Graphic Novels sections. Books from our other sections are currently being treated to work with our book detectors and these sections will be open soon. Teachers needing specific items are asked to talk to the SLMS and we will get these shelves done sooner to support their classes.

We are grateful for our student and parent volunteers, and to the Science, Business, and other teachers that have assisted us in this project.

Ms. White's 6th Grade Students Visit Their Library!

On Tuesday and Wednesday Ms. White’s 6th grade students visited their school library media center to meet their librarian, get a tour of their library and check out books. Fun was had by all!
