Mrs. Hanson's 8th grade English class visited their library today to begin their research projects about Jack London and his book,
The Call of the Wild. Mr. Dutcher gave them information about evaluating resources, then he showed the students some interesting web sites that illustrated the points he mentioned. He concluded this section by talking about Orson Wells' 1938 radio broadcast of 'War of the Worlds' and how he wanted listerners to not take everything as presented.
Mr. Dutcher also talked with the class about how to use MLA citation worksheets to document the resources they would be using for their research papers. He expained that both he and Mrs. Hanson would be working together to grade their papers. Mrs. Hanson would evaluate their content (90%) and Mr. Dutcher would evaluate their references (10%). Mr. Dutcher's rubric was introduced and he assured the students that he would help anyone that needs his help.
Students spent the rest of the period conducting their research using books and other resources in the library. Mrs. Hanson has two other classes that will visit on Friday.
