Mrs. Lauria's HS English Class Met in the LMC Classroom

Today Mrs. Laura brought her students into the library classroom to use the computer projector located in the room for instructional delivery. Mr. Dutcher met with her earlier to ensure that she was comfortable with this equipment.

Ms. Wincek's Students Learn About Greek Mythology

Today, Ms. Wincek's students came down to their library to conduct research about the Gods and other characters found in Greek mythology. Mr. Dutcher worked with them to document their sources in MLA format. As part of their research reports, they will be creating works cited pages. These reports will be graded by both Ms. Wincek (content, 90%) and Mr. Dutcher (research documentation, 10%).

Mr. Russo's High School English Students Visit for Book Selection

Today Mr.Russo's classes visited their library to check out books for silent reading. Mysteries for some, ghost stories for others, and novels flew off the shelves into the hands of the rest.

Mrs. Hanson's Students Visit to Study Study Jack London

Mrs. Hanson's 8th grade English class visited their library today to begin their research projects about Jack London and his book, The Call of the Wild. Mr. Dutcher gave them information about evaluating resources, then he showed the students some interesting web sites that illustrated the points he mentioned. He concluded this section by talking about Orson Wells' 1938 radio broadcast of 'War of the Worlds' and how he wanted listerners to not take everything as presented.

Mr. Dutcher also talked with the class about how to use MLA citation worksheets to document the resources they would be using for their research papers. He expained that both he and Mrs. Hanson would be working together to grade their papers. Mrs. Hanson would evaluate their content (90%) and Mr. Dutcher would evaluate their references (10%). Mr. Dutcher's rubric was introduced and he assured the students that he would help anyone that needs his help.

Students spent the rest of the period conducting their research using books and other resources in the library. Mrs. Hanson has two other classes that will visit on Friday.

Mrs. Holtz' Students Return

Mrs. Holtz' students returned to their library today and on Thursday for book selection. Cool books were found by all with lots of neat reading soon to follow.

Mrs. Holtz' 6th Grade Students Visit their Library

Today, Mrs. Holtz' 6th grade students will be visiting their library for a tour and an introduction to their library. They will then participate in a library treasure hunt to familiarize themselves with different things in their library. Fun will be had by all :-)

Ms. Dennis' Students Visiting to Learn about Biography Resources

Today Ms. Dennis' students will be visiting the library to collect information about famous persons. Mr. Dutcher will introduce "Current Biography Yearbook" and other resources to them and he will assist the students find their information.

Ms. White's 6th Grade Students Learn About Mysteries

On Monday and Tuesday this week, Ms. White's students will visit their library to learn about mystery books. Mr. Dutcher will be discussing with them characteristics of mysteries, exploring some subject headings to look for in the library catalog, and identifying some mystery authors. In addition, students will have an opportunity to explore (and check out) some of the library's mystery books that Mr. Dutcher has pulled for the class. Later in class they will be reading the "Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin and "Chasing Vermeer" by Blue Balliett.
