HS Students Slam Poetry in the LMC Coffeehouse

This evening, Mr. Dutcher turned the school library into the library media center coffeehouse and hosted a poetry slam for high school students. The theme for this slam was ‘What I Learned in School.’ Ten high school students, after practicing with their teachers before today, performed their poetry at our slam to an audience of over 40 individuals. Mr. McWain, a high school earth science teacher, warmed up the audience and scored thee negative infinities and a six. Found in the audience were other high school students, parents, teachers, community members, and members of the local press. Twinkies, a box of mac and cheese, and other prizes were awarded to our student poets. Everyone had fun experiencing poetry.
This event was part of our Poetry at Dryden MS/HS 2006 program with grant funding from the Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund, the Dryden Teachers Center, and Lori Harris, friend of Mrs. Cunningham.
