Students Using LMC for Research and Reading

Today in the LMC Ms. Leonello's MS students came down to do research on William Shakespeare. Later, Mrs. Lauria brought her HS students into the LMC to do book selection for sustained silent reading. Ms. Brecht also visited with several students to watch a DVD relating to a class assignment.

Art Students Win Awards

Students in Ms. Hall's HS Art Club recently participated in the Olympics of the Visual Arts (OVA) state competition and won several awards for their works. The fashion design team placed second for their Louis XVI masquerade ball costume design. The portrait design team took third place for their group portrait mural depicting alternatives to violence and conflict resolution. The sculpture design team's "Alter to the Mechanical Idea", an hommage to the machine also took third place. These students used library books and other resources to research their areas of competition. Twenty-seven schools from across New York State participated in the competition. OVA is sponsored by the New York State Art Teachers Association. Congratulations!

Why a Blog?

This is indeed a good question. Blogs were originally called web logs which soon evolved into the word Blog (web-logs). It is a way for people to do online journaling to share with people who might be interested in your thoughts and ideas. The author creates and posts messages which are automatically dated and listed chronologically, while older messages become archived. Some blogs even allow other users to contribute. Blogs could even be used as part of classroom instruction.
This blog will be used to share information about happenings in the Dryden MS/HS Library Media Center- what classes are scheduled to visit the library today, what new books have arrived, what art classes have student works on display, what's new on the web site, etc. This and other related information that library users will find useful will be posted. Please visit us regularly for current information.

Web Site Update

The online library databases section of library media center web site was updated today. In addition to having an alphabetical listing of all of our databases, we now have lists to identify the periodical databases including magazine and newspaper databases; reference databases including online encyclopedias, and other reference databases; and middle school databases and teacher databases.

This will allow students (and teachers) to more easily access the online library databases that will give them the type of information that they need. See the Online Databases section of the LMC web site for further information.
